Crowley was in hiding. It seemed like Crowley was always hiding from someone. At the moment though, he was no longer hiding from Castiel. One less being to avoid.
Crowley had heard all about how Dean had finally managed to talk Castiel down. That bloody angel was probably making mooneyes at Dean again. Not that Crowley cared. It’s not like he had actually enjoyed the time he had spent with Castiel, despite all of the lying and deceit between the two of them.
Nothing changed, yet Crowley knew he was no longer alone. “Hello darling. Now what possible reason could you have for showing your face here?”
“I’ve come to apologize.”
Curiosity got the better of him and he turned to face the angel. “You’ve come here to apologize?”
“Yes, for double crossing you.”
“And I suppose you expect me to forgive you and to also apologize.”
“No.”
That surprised Crowley. He would have expected that Castiel would be expecting forgiveness at the very least.
“I would like your forgiveness though.”
“Why would you want my forgiveness?”
Castiel tilted his head at him. “Dean asked me the same question.”
“I wondered when you would finally bring him up. And just how are the lovely Winchesters? Do they still want my head on a platter?”
Castiel continued staring at him, not answering. Crowley rolled his eyes. “Do they still want me dead?”
“Yes. I have asked them, as my friends, not to harm you though.”
Crowley smirked. “I bet they didn’t take that well.”
“They believe that I have some side effects from what I did.”
“This is an interesting story and all, but it doesn’t explain why you are here and why you want my forgiveness.”
“I don’t expect you to apologize, but I would like to start over and forget that you manipulated me and forget that I double crossed you.”
Crowley still couldn’t understand why Castiel wanted any of this. It’s not as if Castiel could possibly want the same thing that Crowley wanted. “Are you sure your boyfriend would be okay with you being friends with me?”
“My boyfriend?” Castiel looked genuinely confused.
“Well maybe you haven’t shagged yet, but you are in love with Dean, aren’t you?”
No answer, and Castiel still looked confused. Crowley walked the few steps over to Castiel, took his face in his hands, and kissed him. He had expected a lot of things, but he hadn’t expected Castiel to kiss him back, and suddenly Castiel’s need for Crowley to forgive him made sense. Crowley pulled out of the kiss.
“Does this mean you forgive me?”
“Yes, and I’m sorry too.” Crowley nearly choked on the words. He had never even apologized when he was human. There was a hint of a smile on Castiel’s face. “Did that hurt?”
Crowley smiled. “And the angel has a sense of humor.”
“I’ve learned a lot from the Winchesters.”
“Oh, that’s just bloody brilliant. If you start acting like Dean then I’m going back to Hell.”
Castiel opened his mouth to say something, but Crowley yanked Castiel down by his tie and kissed him. Forgiveness had a positive side after all.
