“Rachel? Really? You want to get back with Rachel?”
“Hello to you too, Steven.”
He shouldn’t be here. Not when he was this angry. But Danny had thrown him for a loop. He had thought that maybe they had been heading in the same direction, but as it turns out, Danny had been getting cozy with his ex. “Danny.”
“Look, Steve. It’s late. I’m exhausted. I’ve had a long day, which was even longer because of Sang Min. I just want to sleep.”
Steve moved closer to Danny. “No. We need to talk, and we need to do it now.”
“Oh, is that so? And what do we need to talk about? There isn’t anything to talk about. So what if I want to get back together with my ex? What does that have to do with you?”
Steve swallowed hard. He was actually really nervous about this. “What about us?”
Danny’s eyes went wide. “Us?” he spluttered. “I didn’t know there was an ‘us’.”
Steve felt something tighten inside of him. It was hard to breathe. His voice was surprisingly steady when he spoke. “Are you telling me that you don’t feel anything for me?”
“You’re my friend, Steve. We’re ‘ohana. That’s all.”
“I thought we were heading in the same direction.”
“Well you thought wrong.” Danny wasn’t looking at him though.
“I think you’re lying.”
“Steve, I’m not gay.”
“Neither am I.”
Danny raised his eyebrows at him.
“What? I’ve been attracted to exactly one man my entire life, and that makes me gay? I completely freaked out when I realized what I felt for you. And it’s just you, Danny. It’s just you.” He cupped Danny’s face in his hands, and leaned down and kissed him. He felt Danny start to respond, but then a pair of hands was on his chest, pushing him away.
“What the hell did you do that for?”
“You started kissing me back.”
“Steven, you are insane. I’m sorry if you misread me, but I am not interested. I’m comfortable around you, but maybe I shouldn’t be quite as “friendly”.”
Steve knew exactly what Danny meant. How many times had people said something about them being married? He’d lost count.
“Steve, me and Rachel and Gracie, we can be a family again.”
“For once, I’m not sure you have Gracie’s best interest at heart.” With that, he turned around and walked out. His heart was heavy and his insides were all in knots. He was in actual physical pain. Something he had never experienced before, at least not from something like this.
No one had ever come close to meaning as much to him as Danny did. How had this happened? How had he fallen so hard for Danny? It didn’t matter. Danny either wasn’t in love with him, or was denying his feelings for whatever reason. If he had to wager a guess, he would say that Danny was just denying his feelings. It didn’t make him feel any better though.
After everything they had been through, and Danny couldn’t let himself love Steve. He got into his truck, turned off his music, and headed home to his too big and too empty house.

Date: 2011-05-12 01:27 pm (UTC)And yes, there will be a sequel to this. I was just so upset with Monday's episode and it left me feeling hopeless about the Steve/Danny situation, so this is what came out.

No worries. I will be fixing it. I'm still shocked I even wrote this one. I hate stories that end like this. I won't read them.
