The stars were shining down on him, and the air was crisp and cool. He was sitting on the hood of the Impala, leaning back against the windshield, just wanting a few minutes to himself.
He had only been there for a few minutes when Cas appeared. His eyes were closed, but the few years of Cas just showing up, Dean now just knew when Cas was there.
“Cas, don’t say anything. Just lay on the car like this, and relax.”
He didn’t have to have his eyes open to know that Cas was looking at him with his head tilted, like that would somehow help him understand humans, Dean in particular, better.
Dean smiled when he felt the warmth of Cas’ body flush against his own. He could feel tension and anger just draining away, and he felt lighter than he had in such a long time. This must be what people felt when they said they felt at peace. It was a new experience for him.
It was easier letting his guard down around Cas, and he found himself snuggling up closer to Cas, to his warmth.
There was something between them, he knew, and he was even pretty sure that Cas knew. Neither seemed willing to make a move though. They were comfortable with what they had. It seemed that by mutual, unspoken agreement, they were just going to let whatever happened, happen. There was no pressure, no urgency, just happiness.
It had always been different with girls. He could admit that it was usually just all about the sex, but it was different with Cas.
He shifted onto his side and slung an arm around Cas, pillowing his head on his shoulder, and resting a leg in between Cas’.
“Dean, what are you doing?”
“It’s called cuddling, Cas, and if you ever tell anyone we did this…”
“Should I be doing something?”
Dean couldn’t help but grin. His angel was completely clueless, and he thought it was adorable. “You should probably put your arms around me.”
Cas complied and they just lay there, enjoying the silence. Dean could easily fall asleep like this. He very nearly did, but Cas’ grip on him suddenly tightened, and he started nuzzling the top of Dean’s head, almost like he wanted to kiss the top of Dean’s head, but wasn’t sure if he should.
Dean titled his head up towards Cas, and their lips slotted together. The kiss was brief, both of them pulling away almost as soon as their lips touched. They looked at each other, and Dean smiled at Cas. This time, he closed the distance between them slowly and with purpose. His hand moved up to cup the back of Cas’ neck and he held him in place as he pressed their lips together.
The kiss was gentle and sweet, but it didn’t last much longer than the first. Cas was smiling at him when they broke apart, and Dean had never been happier that Cas had at least picked that up.
Dean smiled back and pressed his face against Cas’ neck. Cas placed a kiss to the top of Dean’s head. Dean smiled into Cas’ neck and let himself drift off in the arms of his angel.
