Oh! That was adorable! :) I love how you added a layer of complexity to their relationship. It feels genuine, with all the problems and conflicts that a relationship like theirs should have. I'm pleasantly surprised that Beverly took the news so well, but then again, she doesn't know the full story. I half-want to see how she would handle knowing the first officer was dating her son, but then again, I don't, because I know nothing good could come from it. But I'm sure you'll explore issues like that further as you make your way through the series :) I can't wait to see how these two develop further ! :D What an excellent update!
